The Book of Deuteronomy Part 14 | Beware of Idolatry

• August 19, 2025 • 4 views

After prayer for strengthened foundations and understanding, the speaker reads Deuteronomy 4:15-20 as instruction for the present church. The central warning is that Israel saw no form when God spoke at Horeb and therefore must not manufacture an image of a creature or human being as a representation to worship. The speaker insists that devotion belongs to God alone. The teaching extends the warning from carved objects to inward allegiances. Fame, money, wealth and possessions can become idols in the heart. The speaker also reads the command not to be drawn into worship of the sun, moon or stars, distinguishing created things from the one to whom worship is directed. Comments about the practices of other churches are her confessional interpretation and are not adopted as claims about those communities. The reading concludes with God bringing Israel out of Egypt to be his own people. The speaker applies that belonging to believers in Christ and connects it with consecration and freedom from impurity. The final prayer thanks God for new life, asks for cleansing and seeks grace to love, reverence and serve him acceptably. The recorded programme outro completes the episode.
