The Book of Galatians Part 10 | The Law versus The Promise

• August 12, 2025 • 5 views

The opening prayer thanks God for including Gentiles in Christ’s saving work. Resuming Galatians 3, the speaker argues that the promise to Abraham precedes the law and is not cancelled by it. Christ is identified as the promised seed, and the inheritance is presented as resting on God’s promise rather than law-keeping. The message then asks why the law was given. The speaker follows Paul’s language about transgressions and the coming seed, describing the law and priesthood as temporary provision. Its inability to give life is contrasted with the new life and Spirit received through Christ. Salvation by faith is presented as especially significant for people outside Israel’s ancestral covenant. The conclusion follows the schoolmaster image into sonship, baptism into Christ and the unity of believers across inherited social distinctions. Those who belong to Christ are described as Abraham’s seed and heirs of the promise. The congregation is invited to confess faith in Jesus and thank God for the promised Spirit and their place in God’s family.
