The Principles of Meditation - Danladi Hassan, One Jot-One Tittle

Danladi Hassan • April 14, 2019

Danladi Hassan presents meditation as attentive stillness before God, using Abraham’s encounter at the tent door in Genesis 18. He interprets Abraham’s posture spiritually, as waiting at an entrance into encounter, rather than simply as a physical location. Song of Songs’ image of sitting under a beloved’s shadow helps describe delight in God’s presence.

The teaching repeatedly joins waiting, quietness and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. The speaker argues that the noise of flesh, mind and soul must become still so that the indwelling Lord gains ascendancy. Zechariah’s summons for all flesh to be silent and the psalm’s call to be still become central supports. Isaiah’s eagle imagery illustrates receiving God’s strength instead of relying on restless effort.

Physical postures, including sitting, lifted hands and prostration, are discussed as spiritually meaningful. The speaker associates meditation with transformation and ascent in the spirit. These are his interpretive claims, not a neutral account of the historical meaning of Genesis. The excerpt ends during an extended eagle-and-wind illustration.
