Carriers of The Lords Ark

Douglas Arukwe Elyon begins by asking for light through God’s word and arguing that kingdom activity must be joined to knowledge of God’s ways. He presents a prophetic scheme in which the kingdom has been carried through a prolonged period of fleshly limitation. Pentecost’s leaven and the restrictions surrounding holy anointing oil become his principal images for distinguishing outward religious work from a purified bearer of God’s life. The exposition connects early and latter rain, Paul’s blindness, wilderness travel, the ark among the Philistines and the Gerasene pigs to a proposed history of the church. Elyon describes Christianity’s corruption and the effect of Constantine in strong terms. These chronological and historical claims belong to his interpretive framework; the biblical narratives do not themselves supply the modern timeline he draws from them. The practical conclusion is that impressive kingdom teaching cannot substitute for transformed character. Malice, envy and corruption undermine the kind of witness the speaker seeks. He calls listeners to submit to the Holy Spirit, recognize what he believes is a new season of light, and relinquish fleshly patterns. The closing emphasis returns to the assertion that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom, followed by a blessing.
