Conformed to the Image of Christ

Christian fellowship is meant to do more than bring believers into the same room; it is meant to bring them into the same life. The goal is that Christ becomes increasingly revealed in His people until individual opinions, ambitions, preferences, and divisions begin to give way to His nature. Whenever believers gather around truth, they are being invited into cleansing, purification, transformation, and building. The Word exposes what does not agree with God, while the Holy Spirit works that truth into the inner life until it becomes something lived rather than merely discussed.

Knowing truth is not the same as possessing information. A person can remember Scriptures, understand theological language, and still remain unchanged. Truth has been truly known when it begins to govern the way a person lives. The Holy Spirit brings truth to remembrance, illuminates its meaning, applies it to particular circumstances, and empowers obedience. Freedom comes when what once controlled a person loses its dominion because the life of God has become stronger within. The evidence of understanding is therefore not merely the ability to explain a revelation but the ability to walk in it.

The appearing of Christ should consequently be understood not only as something awaited in the future but also as something that must increasingly occur within His people now. The hope of seeing Him should produce purification. If the expectation of His appearing does not lead to transformation, holiness, love, and conformity to His nature, then something essential has been missed. The priority is not simply to debate when or how He will ultimately appear, but to ensure that His life is presently becoming visible in the heart, character, relationships, and conduct of those who belong to Him.

Love becomes one of the clearest tests of whether spiritual knowledge is producing the life of God. Hatred toward a brother is treated with extraordinary seriousness because it reveals that death is still operating within. Passing from death into life is demonstrated by love for the brethren. Love is not merely warm emotion; it is expressed by laying down one's life for others. It means refusing jealousy when another member advances, refusing to destroy someone because God is using them differently, and recognizing that the success of one part of the body can serve the whole body.

The church must therefore learn to think corporately. A body cannot function when its members are competing against one another. Some may move ahead in particular areas, but they should advance for the sake of everyone, not merely themselves. Others should not respond with envy, suspicion, or sabotage. Every believer carries something that can strengthen the rest. Fellowship becomes powerful when people stop protecting personal territories and begin asking how Christ can be revealed through the whole body.

This kind of unity is not artificial uniformity. It is not the political or organizational joining of churches that still remain inwardly divided. True oneness comes from seeing and receiving Christ in one another. Believers may have different backgrounds, traditions, emphases, and levels of understanding, yet the same Christ must become the basis of recognition and fellowship. Unity becomes possible when the glory, truth, name, life, and nature given by Christ become more important than denominational identities, ministry platforms, personal systems, and doctrinal camps.

The believer must also understand God's original intention for humanity. From the beginning, humanity was created in God's image and given responsibility to exercise dominion upon the earth. The goal was never simply to produce people whose greatest aspiration was to leave the earth. God's desire is for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. His kingdom, righteousness, government, and dominion are meant to become visible through a people who have been transformed into His likeness.

The armor of God should be understood as the formation of a people properly clothed for priestly and governmental responsibility. Truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the Word, and prayer are not decorative Christian ideas; they describe the posture required to stand in spiritual authority. Righteousness must shape the heart toward the brethren. Faith must determine how life is lived. Truth must hold the whole person together. The Word must become an active instrument. Prayer must eventually mature beyond endless self-preservation and become intercession for the saints, the advance of the gospel, and the purposes of God.
