Self Purification 3

Francis Isibor Snr • April 24, 2025 • 107 views

Continuing the self-purification series, Francis Isibor Snr places the Christian life within God’s covenant initiative. Deliverance is described as God’s rescue rather than an accidental or casual blessing. Genesis 15 becomes the opening text: God speaks to Abraham as his shield and reward, promises descendants and establishes a covenant. Genesis 18 then brings the response into focus through righteousness, justice and the instruction of a household. The exposition moves to Exodus 19, where deliverance from Egypt leads into a calling to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. The speaker connects that language with 1 Peter 2 and with belonging to Christ as Abraham’s seed. Alongside the biblical readings, he offers a number of interpretive expansions about earlier covenants and Israel’s history. The main sustained emphasis is that covenant relationship carries a calling and responsibilities, not merely the expectation of receiving benefits. The final section centres on Jesus and the disciples at the covenant meal in Matthew 26, with connections to John 6 and John 17. Bread and the cup are treated as covenant tokens, and Jesus’ life with the disciples as preparation for participation in his life and mission. Judas provides a warning about betrayal. The message ends with thanksgiving for redemption and for those who were not a people being brought into the people of God.
