The heavenly realm operates with distinct classes, rankings, responsibilities, and protocols among spiritual beings. Cherubim, seraphim, archangels, the four living creatures, the twenty-four elders or ancient ones, and other angels do not occupy identical positions or perform identical functions. Michael is identified as an archangel with authority within an angelic order, while other angels are assigned responsibilities connected to nations, ministries, and individual lives. Understanding these distinctions provides a framework for recognizing order within the architecture of God's Kingdom.
Revelation 4 presents heavenly ranking through the arrangement and proximity of beings around God's throne. The seven burning lamps, identified as the seven Spirits of God, are presented nearest the throne, followed within the heavenly order by the twenty-four ancient ones and the four living creatures, which function as guardians of the throne. The twenty-four ancient ones are understood as witnesses to God's purposes, plans, and work of creation. Heavenly proximity, responsibility, and function therefore reveal an ordered government rather than an unstructured spiritual realm.
This heavenly order also provides a framework for understanding Christ's ascension. Psalm 24 portrays everlasting doors opening before the ascending Christ, interpreted as spiritual gates governing access to dimensions and mysteries within God. Christ ascended through the spiritual realms, confronted the spirits appointed under God's government to guard divine mysteries and ways, and filled all things as described in Ephesians. Through this ascension, Christ took possession of the dimensions, mysteries, wisdom, and counsel of God for the advantage of the Church; therefore, grow in understanding of the Kingdom's spiritual order so that you can properly relate to and function within what Christ has made available.
