Priesthood after the order of Melchizedek is a whole-life calling to represent the Most High, possessor of heaven and earth. The blessing of Abraham and the identity of a chosen generation, royal priesthood, holy nation, and peculiar people establish a responsibility to show forth God’s nature. This calling reaches beyond church services into ordinary relationships and every sphere of work. Spiritual governance requires growth into the likeness of Christ, so the believer must become a living expression of the Father rather than merely repeat spiritual titles or wait for a future life in heaven. Begin the work of reigning by overcoming sin, self, disordered appetites, and the flesh. Renew the mind through Scripture, welcome the Holy Spirit’s training, and practice the disciplines of prayer, obedience, and righteousness. The warning to Thyatira exposes the danger of departing from truth and allowing possessions, relationships, ambitions, or devices to become idols. Love God because he first loved and redeemed us, not merely for benefits or impressive answers to prayer. Hold fast to the truth already received, refuse teachings that accommodate self-interest, and seek the maturity that can discern what truly expresses Christ. Greater works are bound to the formation of Christ in people and the manifestation of his kingdom life. Bring that life into banking, medicine, farming, commerce, media, property, and the relationships immediately around you. Signs and extraordinary experiences cannot substitute for transformed character or a soul governed by Christ. Trials expose what still needs to change; receive that exposure and bring it willingly to God. Grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ so that deception does not draw you away from steadfastness, and cultivate a deliberate hunger to study, obey, and become what God has revealed.
Father, make my heart good ground for your word and enable me to practice what you reveal.
Holy Spirit, renew my mind and form the nature of Christ in my thoughts, attitudes, and conduct.
Help me overcome sin, selfish appetites, fear, and every habit that weakens my obedience.
Deliver me from idolatry and teach me to love you above possessions, relationships, and personal advantage.
Give me discernment to recognize truth and refuse impressive experiences that do not express your character.
Teach me to live out my priesthood in my family, work, and daily relationships.
Keep me steadfast as I grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Put hunger for growth in my heart and strengthen my commitment to study, prayer, and obedience.
