The Discipline of Living by Faith and Not by Sight

• June 20, 2026 • 129 views

God’s word is given to accomplish his purpose, and its fruitful reception requires more than hearing familiar sentences. Let the Word enter with understanding and be mixed with faith. Abraham’s movement from concern about an heir to settled confidence illustrates the need for the heart to come into agreement with what God has spoken. Become fully persuaded of God’s faithfulness, give him glory, and learn to attend to the unseen reality of his promise rather than allowing present appearances to determine every conclusion. Receive God’s strengthening and comfort with hope, trusting him for light in darkness. Faith must respond to God’s actual word rather than assumption. Seek his direction, recognize what he has said, and remain obedient when circumstances appear contrary. Learn from Jeroboam’s warning: fear-driven reasoning can lead a person away from a genuine promise into self-protection and disobedience. Guard the heart through sustained attention to Scripture. Find the Word, meditate on it, pray over it, and receive it as nourishment until it shapes conduct, courage, peace, and freedom from offense instead of remaining a memorized expression. Build a disciplined life of hearing, believing, and waiting on God. Watch daily at wisdom’s gates through attentive reading of Scripture, and follow hearing a promise with the patient work of holding to it. Mary’s “be it unto me” and the disciples’ waiting for power illustrate receptive agreement and persevering attention. Continue in the Word and prayer, give thanks, and ask for strength to wait faithfully. Set your heart on things above and receive grace to walk in what God has made known.
