The Dream May Be Delayed, But It Will Not Die

• June 13, 2026 • 150 views

Holiness means belonging wholly to God: worship must become a life set apart for his glory. Faithfulness does not remove every season of trouble, darkness, exhaustion, or discouragement. David at Ziklag and Paul under overwhelming affliction show that even devoted servants can reach the end of their own strength. Receive the comfort of God, strengthen others with that comfort, and understand spiritual leadership as a real burden of care for people rather than a claim to status. Labor faithfully with the grace given to you, attend to Scripture, and build people up instead of taking pride in pulling them down. Discouragement can grow through financial pressure, fear of the future, delayed expectations, uncertain purpose, unanswered prayer, apparent fruitlessness, and entanglement in sin. Bring the actual condition of your heart before God rather than feeding continually on your feelings or pretending to possess strength and wisdom you lack. David strengthened himself in the Lord, inquired of him, received direction, and acted on that direction. Distinguish suffering for the kingdom from the consequences of immaturity, and ask God for the wisdom to see both yourself and your circumstances truthfully. Overcome prayerlessness by praying, remain in fellowship, and return to the Word even when discouragement makes these practices difficult. Set aside a personally workable time to meet with God consistently; the specific instruction given to discouraged hearers is to do this for twenty-one days and apply the prayer instruction already received. Seek God honestly and listen for his response, including correction of character, an assignment, or a burden beyond the problem that first brought you to prayer. Stay in Christ and place your confidence in God rather than making another person the foundation of your hope. Remember Joseph’s preserved dream, renew confidence in the covenant of Christ, and receive the priestly blessing with trust that God’s word can endure opposition. Receive that encouragement with renewed consecration, obedient prayer, and willingness to bear the Lord’s burden.
